Lost Dog Wash

One of the main trailheads to provide access to the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. Lost Dog Wash offers a number of easy scenic trails like the half-mile Kovach Family Nature Trail and the 2.4-mile Ringtail Trail. There are horse trails as well as trails for biking. You’ll find car and horse parking, restrooms, water, and shelter at the trailhead.

Sunrise Peak

For those who’d like a good workout, the 4-mile Sunrise Trail East climbs 1,150 feet to the top of Sunrise Peak where you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of Camelback , 4 Peaks Wilderness, Fountain Hills, Superstition Wilderness, and South Mountain. We suggest bringing a camera as well as plenty of water.

Go John Trail

Located in Cave Creek Regional Park, the 6-mile Go John Trail can provide some terrific photo ops, especially when the wildflowers are blooming. This is a moderate trail, with a few challenging sections. Keep an eye out for desert tortoises and enjoy the views of Spur Cross Ranch.

Bajada Nature Trail

The hard surface trail is ideal for those who use a walker or are in a wheelchair.

Quartz Trail

The 3.5-mile Quartz Trail Loop is located in Cave Creek Regional Parks and is a favorite of birdwatchers. The trail is rated as moderate, and is open to horseback riding and mountain biking. The trail is well-maintained, and when the wildflowers are blooming, offers many wonderful photo ops.
