What is lane departure warning?
One Honda safety feature that provides peace of mind for Phoenix drivers is the Lane Departure Warning. This feature is designed to help drivers avoid possible collisions caused by drifting out of their lane. A part of the Honda Sensing® safety suite, you can find Lane Departure Warning (LDW) standard in most new Honda models, and offered in others. Check out all this feature can do for you and your Glendale commute with Right Honda.
How Does LDW Work?
Cameras located near the rearview mirror detect lane markings and, when your vehicle’s wheels move past that lane marker, the flashing indicator and beeping alert will warn you to move back into your lane. In some cases, the seat and steering wheel will vibrate to alert you that you’re drifting, then you can safely move back into your lane. This system can help prevent crashes from:
- A rollover
- A vehicle sticking out too far in an adjoining lane
This system is automatically activated when you start your Honda vehicle. Meanwhile, in other brands, it may need to be activated by pushing a button. Also, note this system will not go off if you’re using your turn signal.
Lane Departure Warning Options
When equipped in a Honda model, this system has a few different options. These options include customized feedback, warning types, and more to help drivers get the warnings they need when they need them. Customizations include:
- Haptic feedback warnings like wheel and seat vibrations
- Visual alerts with a flashing lane marking symbol
- Adjustable audible warning levels
- The ability to disable the system
- Highway’s edge recognition
